Panaffle Weekend

Sleeping in until noon, cuddling under the warm covers and just being lazy on a Sunday are some of my favorite things. While the hubby is busy installing his new GTA5 game, I'm hanging around in the kitchen, excited to try the new waffle maker we bought last week and cook my very first waffles.

Ingredients all mixed and waiting to be poured onto the waffle grill....plugged in the waffle maker and 10 seconds later...

The circuit breaker trips and all the power in the house is suddenly turned off.

Then the hubby started panicking and was in a bad mood afterwards. This was the second time he's bought an appliance from a certain shop in Amersfoort that ended up tripping the circuit breaker. Which is weird because the water boiler at 2200 watts works but the waffle maker at 750w causes a problem. So perhaps we got another faulty device again  from that shop which we have to return next week.

What started as my quest to make waffles turned into pancakes. I had no choice but to cook the batter on the stove. He had already packed the waffle maker away back in the box. There was no way he was ever plugging that back in.

The verdict?

These pan-ffles turned out too moist and slightly dense. Well that makes sense. It was a recipe for waffles after all, not pancakes. The taste of the oil is also tangible, which I didn't like. It made the pancakes taste a little off. Try this recipe for making waffles and let me know how it turns out for you.  

But the next time I make pancakes, I'm going to look for a recipe that uses little or no oil at all. 

Because fluffy, pillowy pancakes drizzled with maple syrup are just the perfect breakfast on a Sunday.

YOGURT PAN-FFLES 
(WAFFLES THAT TURNED INTO PANCAKES)
recipe adapted from  Babble.com

2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt

1 cup plain yogurt
3/4 cup milk 
1/3 cup sunflower oil
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract

Mix all the dry ingredients together. Stir all the wet ingredients well in another bowl. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix. It's okay if the batter is still lumpy. 

Heat some butter on a pan. Scoop 1/2 cup of batter and add to the pan. Cook until the sides start to dry up and bubbles form on the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Carefully flip the pancakes and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Serve with strawberries, sprinkle some powdered sugar and drizzle some honey on top.
