Hot Pot of Flavors: Shabu-Shabu

The bleak rainy weather these days makes it so darn good to slurp some nice healthy hot pot. We chose Shabu-Way at Ayala Terraces as we haven't eaten here before and we were in the mood for some hot comfort food.

The Monster Meat Set Meal (PHP 500) seems like the perfect choice, not too little and just the right size. It comes with rice, a big platter of fresh vegetables and noodles along with another plate of super thinly sliced selection of pork, beef and chicken.

Very similar ingredients to Yakiniku, don't you think?
Grill it with Yakiniku. Boil it with Shabu-Shabu.

I love the wonderful healthy colors on this plate!

We really had no idea how to cook this so we just threw the ingredients one by one into the hot chicken broth to get the party started.

Mr. W decided to spice things up a bit by tossing in the chilies and garlic as well.

Still wasn't satisfied with how he was cooking all the ingredients, he cranked up the heat.

And got the whole thing rolling to a boil. Then we decided to just dump everything in. Why swish the meat one by one when you can do the whole thing together? That makes life so much easier. *lol* Our Shabu-Shabu is now looking more like Nilagang veggies with thinly sliced meat. We had no idea what we were doing.

Can somebody please enlighten me what is the right way to cook Shabu-Shabu?

This nice bubbly hot pot is so so good for you!

After a few minutes, everything was ready to eat!
1. Hot broth with some greens, a slice of chicken, noodles and a slice of carrot
2. Two types of dipping sauces (I mixed the two with the garlic and chilies)
3. Cooked veggies and meat

That dipping sauce totally takes the flavors to the next level. Coat every single surface of that thinly sliced meat, that's soaked up the wonderful flavor of the broth, in that sauce before putting it in your mouth.

Start dipping in and *Swoon*.

Right or wrong way of cooking, this Shabu-Shabu turned out to be a great satisfying and healthy lunch.

Come closer. Let me tell you something.
